Malva Milk Tart Pudding with Huizens Fabriek Fresh Cream

This recipe brings together two South African favourites – soft, warm malva pudding and creamy milk tart custard.

The result? A dessert that is warm, smooth, and full of comfort.

🧂Ingredients

For the Malva Pudding:

For the Malva Sauce:

For the Milk Tart Topping:

Ground cinnamon (for dusting)

2 cups milk

2 Tbsp cornflour

2 Tbsp sugar

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla essence

½ cup Huizens Fabriek Fresh Cream

👩‍🍳Method

1️⃣ Make the Malva Batter

Preheat oven to 180°C.

Mix sugar, egg, and apricot jam until smooth.
Add milk and bicarbonate of soda.
Then add flour, Huizens Fabriek melted butter, and vinegar. Mix well.

Pour into a greased baking dish.


2️⃣ Bake

Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden and cooked through.


3️⃣ Make the Cream Sauce

In a pot, heat:

Stir until smooth and warm.

Pour over the hot pudding as soon as it comes out of the oven.


4️⃣ Make the Milk Tart Layer

Heat milk in a pot.

In a bowl, mix cornflour, sugar, egg, and a little milk.
Add this to the warm milk and stir until thick.

Remove from heat and add:


5️⃣ Assemble

Pour the milk tart mixture over the malva pudding.
Smooth the top and sprinkle cinnamon.

Let it cool slightly before serving.
